Post-Production: Park scenes raw footage

  • The goal of the scenes is for certain audiences to identify with "Dan's" struggles while others will feel a sense of pathos towards the main character.
  • The idea of the scenes is to catch the sentiment of park and show the one connection the main character has which is with his loyal dog.

  • Footage one:
This take is blurry and the frame would need tightening.
    Footage two:

The second clip does not show the actor taking out the focal prop being the letter. The dog, Jenson, is also distracted.
    Footage three:

This take will be used in the editing process because:

    1. The take is focused so the audience can see the natural setting which is conventionally used in social realism genre to represent class.
    2. The scene uses a wide shot so the frame captures features of mise-en-scene such as glum facial expressions and either interpreted as relaxed or agitated body language expressed through the actor.
    3. The dog actor is attentive and keeps main focus on our actor and on the camera.
    4. The setting of the camera has been made blue to compliment the scenes upset mood/tone.
    5. The actor is working class which means that at times clothing can be branded which has been done in social realism films like "Kidulthood". The brands can also allow audiences to interpret/ generate connotations to certain pychographics.
    6. When editing, the sound will be made quieter so that diegetic/ ambient noises of birds tweeting and the wind noise builds on the soundscape but also adheres to social realism films application of sound.
    Footage four:
This footage will not be used in the editing stage because, when Robert throws the paper, the action itself seems forced rather than an expression of anger displacement.
    Footage five:

In this take Rob forgot to throw the paper.
    Footage Six:
The final take will be used in the editing process because:
    1. The head over the shoulder shot frame is tightly positioned. This has been done so that the shot works as a point of view where the camera is focused on the note focal prop.
    2. The focal prop is readable
    3. The note is crumpled which shows he has had the note for a certain duration.
    4. The note perfectly stops at the bottom step, still in shot and allows the use of body language to show anger displacement. Within the scene, there is a focal diegetic sound of the noise he makes when his foot contacts the paper.
    5. The scene here becomes slightly out of focus which compliments the actors mood.
    6. The blue tint on the frame compliments the scene and the idea of the trailer being a first person narrative as the main characters inner emotions is expressed through a sense of pathetic fallacy based on the tone created.
    7. Robert exists from the frame which remains audience focus for an instant on the paper that remains.
    8. When editing, the diegetic sound e.g the wind will be decreased so that the voice over of the main characters inner thoughts are heard.
    Footage seven:
    Footage eight:
    • Footage eight will be used within the trailer as the dog, Jenson is able to keep up with Robert.
    • To keep diegetic noise, there will be a hint of wind kept in the scene but so that voice over can be heard, the sound of the clip will be decreased.
    Footage nine:
    Footage eleven:
    Footage twelve:
    • The final three footages where taken to replace the alleyway scene. Due to time constraints, as a group we decided to apply the same idea of the alleyway scene but in a different location
    • We shot this scene in Hyde Parks forest area which compliments the pathetic fallacy glum atmosphere.
    • The displacement of anger is shown through a wide shot, focusing on the body language to express said anger.
    • The camera is intentionally slightly out of focus so that Dan's frustration perspective is complimented.
    • The diegetic sound of the bottle hitting the camera lens will be picked up and possibly intensified.
    • The camera shakes slightly when contacted by the bottle which connotations display Dan's aggressive output.
