Post-production: History Classroom raw footage

The footage's will be used for editing. The main idea for this scene is to show the contrast between peers emotions. The scene also shows a busy classroom but the main actor is trying to concentrate on work. In addition, the scene plays on facial expressions and body language to enforce the contrast ideas. Considering cinematography, a panoramic, wide shot is used to create a scene atmosphere. Diegetic noise might be muted in order for the non diegetic piano music to play over.
  • The voice over is cut off on the word "thrive" because the voice over script is language that is an overflow of emotions so he is abruptly stopped by the Foley bell sound. The Foley is added as a diegetic sound.
  • The level of dialogue/ diegetic/ ambient sound has been lowered in order to allow audiences to understand the reason for his frustration.

Research and planning: Story-line inspiration

This scene of The Fosters inspired the idea of a budding pianist who wants to find the next generations new sound through the passion he has for his music. This scene has conventions of the social realism genre such as family, personal struggles and character development. The story behind the character (Brandon's) composition piece made me think of the idea of the groups main character to tell a story, with the composition piece which introduces the idea of flashbacks and a voice over to narrate a story.

Post-Production: The editing process: After effects software from the makers of...

  • To increase our trailers credibility, we decided to think of two independent, social realism genre sounding film names.
  • When opening an after effects document, there is an option to decide background colour.
  • Using the horizontal type tool, we typed in language that will increase our films credibility.
  • The next step was to decide on an animating effect. We decided to use a type writer effect but to compliment the modern social realist film aspect, we have decided to not include the typewriter sound effect. Therefore, the idea uses advanced technology like the vlog scene but in this case, a computer typed idea.
  • Once the typewriter effect is selected, all that needs to be done is to drag the effect onto the words.
  • The sound effect isn't necessary as the piano soundtrack is dominant at this point in the trailer.
  • The idea of using a type writer effect was inspired by the social realism film "Submarine."

  • We will export the sequence and then add it into premiere pro.

Research and planning: Distribution company

Considering distribution companies, as a group, we decided that we wanted a distribution company that compliments independent studios.

Film 4

Film 4 are a British production and distribution company owned by Channel 4 television company. Famous for films that can be branched under independent films such as 12 years a slave and 127 Hours.

Pathe

Is a french business that was originally ran by the Pathe Brothers. Today, Pathe is a major film production and distribution company that owns a great number of cinema chains.

We may decide to use both distribution companies depending on how much time is needed to fill in the editing process.

Research and planning: Production company

Photoshop software:
The first step was to get an image of a key and changed the colour to white.

Then we considered the typography for the production title. We played with font sizes and shape outline. The shape outline was made thiner so that the 'K' sits in the outline box.

Then the layers was grouped together so that the typography is aligned.

To check the alignment throughout, the ruler tool was used.

The final piece included a clapper effect.

Pre-production paperwork: model/actor release form for magazine front cover and poster

For film poster and magazine print:
I went with my group partner Stephanie to get the actor release form paper signed.

Research and planning: Upper tier of film magazine

I've been looking at features of a magazine upper tier to get a basic understanding for my film magazine. A convention that must be used for typography, is bold typography for the masthead. Therefore, I have used bold typography for the masthead. I have decided with the name Spotlight because it has entertaining and engaging connotations which reflects on the magazines appeal point. My film is a social realism film which explains why I have and will use a colour scheme of white, grey, blue and black which follows conventions because the exampled magazine upper tiers show semantic colours and effect that compliments the genre and the film . I have also included a tagline which increases magazine value. The tagline will be continued onto other magazine editions which creates brand awareness; that helps audience sales. Additional features will be added such as puffs to advertise the promotional features that provide a higher level of audience engagement such as commpetitions that will appeal to the primary audience which in my case is teenagers aged 11-18.

Production: Composition one

Software used:
Premiere
Garageband
Powerpoint

For now, this is the composition piece. What will change will be based on the final scene order. However the moods of the composition reflects the main characters emotions. What was done to the piece, was putting sequences in order and then changing the blending of the notes so that there is a consistent piece that didn't have too much of a dramatic transition change.
