Pre-production photography: Mise-en-scene (3/4): Costume/ Character introduction

Robert Eades: Leading actor
When it came to the casting process, we originally had a performing arts student to be our main character. Due to issues with non-compatible timetables, as a group we decided to replace him with Robert.

Costume has connotations to character. Black has connotations to darkness which reflects the characters bleak emotions. White has connotations to calmness which is a conflicting emotion of the film trailer as the main character/ actor plays the piano. The causal clothing links to conventions as the main character is from a working class background.

Wears casual costume to retain student look realism. Facial expressions reflect the characters emotions throughout the trailer.
For interview scene and the theatre scene, to retain the idea of professtionalism, Robert will be wearing a suit.

Gary Sparham: Interviewer
His role is to interview our main character in order to leave ambiguity on successful admissions process.
Costume includes casual clothing and a lanyard to show authorative position.

  • Jenson the dog stars in the park scenes. He is Dan's only friend.
